Matt knew he shouldn't have been sneaking around the Victors Village. It was stupid and risky, but he was hungry and the last time he'd managed to get away with a whole loaf of fresh bread. He ducked under the window sniffing the air and listening hard for trouble. He knew he was risking a lot just to eat, but it wasn't like there was much more a blind guy could do without signing up for more chances and Matt liked living too much to be early canon fodder for the Games. He reached up to the window sill and started to lift and twist himself into the window. The Victor who lived here was old and would never notice him taking a little bit more food.

Magnus watched the boy and as he walked into the room, flipped on a light. Watching for any sign the boy wasn't actually blind. No squinting of the eyes, or turning of the head.

"You climbed in a window." Seeing how young he was tamped down his temper. But not entirely.

Matt isn't sure how to explain that his hearing allows him to sense where things might be. It's weird enough being a blind kid in a society that values people who aren't damaged. He doesn't want to be a freak too. "I'm blind not paralyzed," he replied his tone a bit sharp, "I just need to feel for the sill and then climb up and I'm fine. I felt to make sure the window was open and swung in."

Magnus is hovering close and leaning closer. "I'm aware. I'm merely curious if you commonly enter through a window, opposed to a door." Honestly, he couldn't have cared less if the boy had disclosed his hearing, his much bigger issue is the boy is in his house, stealing his food.

Matt doesn't flinch as the man moved closer. He wasn't afraid of much to the point he had earned the nickname "The Boy without Fear." "Doesn't make sense to walk in the door when you are trying to steal something," he says with a huff. "The whole point is to get in and out."

He may not flinch, but that doesn't really stop Magnus. He's all too well aware of putting on a brave face. "Finally some honesty." His voice is as dry as a sun baked bone. "What made you think it would be so easy?"

"Because no one has noticed me stealing yet," Matt says, "I've been doing it for years. I don't have anyone else but me and I'm not about to double my chances for a Reap, just for charity. That's how kids get killed."
